English abstract:
We discuss experiences with a system for Laser-assisted bending. It enables bending of brittle materials by heating with diode-lasers built into the lower tool of a bending press. They illuminate the bending line shortly before and during the bending process with a power up to 16 kW/m. The system is based on diode laser bars with a power of 200W at the wavelength 940nm. The bars are mounted on micro-channel-coolers and 8 bars are mounted in a diode laser with 100mm emission-length. The diode lasers can be plugged together to any desired bending length, sealed interfaces allow the supply with cooling water from both sides of the setup.
We present some aspects of laser-assisted bending applied to Mg-, Al-, Ti-, and Steel-alloys, with a focus on the heating behaviour of these materials. Further we mention the influence of laser heating on spring-back, bending radius, and bending force.
