English abstract:
Synchrotron microtomography is carried out in situ during thermal cycling of a continuous fibre reinforced MgAl0.6 matrix. Channel-like porosity is found in the matrix extending along the unidirectional fibres and and its evolution during thermal cycling is analysed by means of a channel-recognition algorithm. The volume fraction of the porosity in the composite is significantly reduced after several thermal cycles. The results are used to explain the shrinkage observed during dilatometry experiments of the same continuous fibre reinforced metal.
